Known internationally, Baroque oboist and musicologist Geoffrey Burgess has appeared with baroque ensembles in his home country Australia, and across North America. For twenty years he worked in Paris with Les Arts Florissants, and he has been a featured soloist with the Washington Bach Consort, Philadelphia Bach Festival, and with the choir of Trinity Wall Street, New York. Currently on the faculty of the Eastman School of Music, Burgess has authored studies on the history of the oboe and French Baroque opera, and in addition to Well-Tempered Woodwinds, a istory of the early music revival in the U.S. as seen through the eyes of the master instrument builder Friedrich von Huene, his revisionist performance practice guide The Pathetick Musician based on the late writings of Bruce Haynes appeared from Oxford University Press in 2016.
