From Handel's day to the Regency, London audiences couldn't get enough of Italian music, and Italian musicians flocked there to supply it: opera arias, pleasure-garden songs, and lessons for the fashionable guitar. With soprano, flute, violin, viola da gamba, and guitar, this program brings together music by Tommaso Giordani and his compatriots, whose melodies became the sound of a fashionable city. Expect ornamented arias, intimate chamber songs, and virtuoso solos made for the theater, the concert room, and the drawing room.
